Kecapi – the fruit i missed


I can’t believe I forgot this fruit when I was listing the fruit that we get in Indonesia

Maybe because this one is slightly more rare. You can hardly get them in supermarkets even if they are in season. They are a bit like mangosteen, but a bit more tangy, also the skin is slightly furry like peaches.

Things I just found out that might not be 100% correct

  •  Latin name: Sandoricum koetjape – koetjape ( this might be a dutch pronounciation of Kecapi)
  • Shares its name with a musical instrument apparently the musical instrument was named after the plant, as the wood of the plant was originally used to fabricate the instrument
  • In Indonesia we eat just like that but apparently in Thailand it is an ingredient of their Green papaya salad Som Tam
