Next Travel Plan – help! Seoul, Sumatra and Kalimantan
Have just booked my flight to Indonesia for in a few months time. I am so excited, this time the transit is Seoul,South Korea and the destinations in Indonesia are Sumatra and Kalimantan. Hope I can do it all within 3 weeks!
I have just started to pay attention to more bloggers who blogged about Korea.
Any suggestions for any of these destinations? I want good places to visit, preferably not those paths well trodden. Must-eats lists are also welcome, I love trying different food.
Ps: the drawing above was done in pen in continuous line, I love the effect drawing in continuous line gives you. Only one rule: DO NOT TAKE YOUR Pen or Pencil off the paper, you can retrace but don’t take it off. Watch carefully each turn of line on your object.
which part of Kalimantan will you visit?
oh yeah, that’s a nice drawing 🙂
I’m still trying to decide. 😀 but Definitely will go to balikpapan then samarinda. Have you been? any suggestions?
hehhehe, so sorry, i was born in Samarinda, now live in Sangatta (about 150 km northward from Samarinda), been at balikpapan at least once in three months), mmmm, work at South Kalimantan. what else?? *bragging* LOL
when will you go there?
*looking for sangatta on Google. Aw ok. Cool. I think it will be early april.
aww, my next field break will be at late april. on the way from Balikpapan-Sangatta, there are so many places to see, jembatan gantung (belum pernah liat juga di balikpapan, payah yah) dayak tribe village (well known in celebrities because of Julia Peres), TNK (sengkima), Bontang (pulau apa gitu pasirnya putih bgt), banyak banget, tapi sendirinya belom sempet2 liat T_T, waktu kecil ajah, masih beda sudut pandang.

BTW sekilas suka liat blognya, terutama ilustrasinya, keren!!!!
i’ll read more
oh..ok. Thank you for the tips. What is in TNK? Thank you for the compliment. My illustration is more of a doodle than proper illustration, so not great, but I love it and I’m trying. Thanks. Keep in touch. I might ask you more question about Kalimantan when I know more where I am going. hehehe Hope you don’t mind.
TNK–> Taman Nasional Kutai (tropical forest), i love that kind of illustration :). of course. i really dont mind. just let me know if you have any question. i’ll answer it happily 🙂
COOL!
I am heading to korea now. I will stay in seoul for a week. 🙂

I want to experience different cultures through traveling around the world, too.
I envy you~~
I recommend “Bukchon 8 Views” to you. I have uploaded new blog post just now.

Aw.. Thank you very much!!! this is so useful! The Tim Burton Art Exhibit is already on my list to go to. I look forward to seeing your update on that. I love museums, art and illustration. So the Art gallery sounds good. I am not sure where to stay, I am thinking Hong dae area. I heard it is very arty.
Yes I want to avoid tourist traps really. =D I want interesting and different. I only have 3 full days though. So I am not sure about going to Busan. More tips please any must have to eat?
If you are heading to Seoul, many will tell you Itaewon. Sadly, this is nothing more than a typical tourist-trap, bar-laden area. Maybe you like that sort of stuff but mostly it’s a bunch of foreigners buying over-priced keepsakes. I would hit Building 63, There is an art gallery at the top of it (claims to be the highest art gallery in the world) and an aquarium in the bottomr of it plus a 3D cinema. I went there at night with a couple of friends but managed to take a few cool pics. https://picasaweb.google.com/113255349370589149345/63Building?authuser=0&feat=directlink
Hiking is huge here in Korea. It is pretty dominated by those in the later years (40+). You can nearly choose any subway station heading out of the city edges and find a place to hike because of this mountainous country. Awesome view no matter where you go. https://picasaweb.google.com/113255349370589149345/HikingBehindUijeongbuCityHall?authuser=0&feat=directlink
(Heh, just realized I have like 5 albums of hiking trips….)
Mostly it depends on how much time you have. The country is pretty small, so if you can swing a trip down south (Busan area) it’s worth checking that area out too. And it’s a little warmer. We are moving to that area in a few weeks.
It’s a little hard to recommend much given that the weather doens’t lend very well to hanging around outdoors. Shopping in Myeon-Dong, Namdaemun, Dongdaemun are always an experience to be had.
Many stations have underground shopping area. It is an interesting site to see no less than 15-20 different cellphone stores operating right by each other.
The National War Museum is rather interesting if you are into that.
Tomorrow(12th) I’ll have a new post up about the Tim Burton art exhibit goign on right now till April. It’s worth a look. (Umm…I mean both the post and the exhibit that is…)
So, take your pick and ejoy!
